What is Root ? and How it Works ?
Somewhere in your day to day routine you've come to a concept of rooting your Smart-phone or listened anywhere something like this.
In this whole post I will be talking about "what does rooting the smart-phone means ?", "how its works ?", "what can you do with that ?", "what are the risks ?", "Advantages after getting root permission" etc.
Now, Coming to our topic: What does actually rooting your Smart-phone means ?
First of all I want to clear that "Rooting is a concept of Linux/Android, so we cannot root any other smart-phone like Iphone, Lumia, blackberry, etc". We all know that in a Windows Operating System we have an "Administrative account & Standard Account". Henceforth, Administrative account have more privilege than compared to standard account. In Linux Operating System there are similar accounts but with different name such as "Administrative equivalent is Root User" and "Standard account equivalent we simply call it as User". From this we can say that Rooting is a process of allowing user (giving special privilege to user) to do some changes in System folder. Like in Windows we have C:\ Drive for system folder , In linux we have "/" (root directory) for linux's system folder. So, We can say that rooting is just only process of giving some special privilege to user and nothing any more. But, there are many risks after getting root permissions and doing some changes in the system folder.
In Linux OS installed in PC we can get the root privilege by simply typing command sudo su, But its different case with the android we have to root the smartphone with its root exploit binary.
What are the risks after rooting Android ?
After rooting we can play with system files of the android but, always playing with anything leads to the injury. Same way here, If we delete some system files that is needed to boot the android than ofcourse the system/android will not boot. This state of the device is called as Bootloop. Boot-loop: "loop" because the android keeps on searching its file until it is found, but while doing something in the system directory you might have delete that file. So bootlooping is the major risk of rooting android.
While installing application forcefully with the root permission which is not compatible with that brand, this can lead System Unstability. And your smartphone may behave in-properly and may reboot randomly.
As it exploits to system security it is more often to have a high risk of virus in you android. Be careful in that case.
Note: Rooting may void your warranty and service may refuse to service your mobile, but it's exception with Xiaomi Devices, because they give permission to root your smartphone officially.
What are the advantages of Rooting Your Android ?
Advantages of rooting include the possibility for complete control over the look and feel of the device. In other words we can say we get a complete Control over the customisation.
- Support for themes, allowing everything to be visually changed from the color of the battery icon, to the boot animation that appears while the device is booting, and more.
- Full control of the kernel, which, for example, allows overclocking and underclocking the CPU and GPU.
- Full application control, including the ability to backup, restore, or batch edit applications, or to remove bloatware that comes pre-installed on many phones.
- Custom automated system-level processes through the use of third-party applications.
- Ability to install a custom firmware (also known as a custom ROM) that allows additional levels of control on a rooted device
